      Description: Andrews (1899-1983) is probably best known as the independent candidate for president in 1956. From 1931 to 1933 he was Auditor of Public Accounts, Commonwealth of Virginia; chairman of the accounting and auditing group of the first Hoover Commission in 1948; and Commissioner of Internal Revenue of the United States from 1953 to 1955. He was one of the founders of the John Birch Society. The papers consist of correspondence, material on the American Institute of Accountants and tax reform, a campaign file, and personal material. Includes about 10,000 letters as well as various reports, documents, and manuscripts of speeches documenting his activities. Correspondents include Lee J.
