To my wonderful parents, the late William R. and Hilda M. Carter, who taught me very early in life the precious gifts of love, how to obtain peace in the midst of storms and faith to continue on my journey despite the many obstacles that may lie ahead. Mom and Dad, while your existence here on earth was far too short, I truly feel that I lost the greatest friendship ever since your departure into your heavenly home. Thank you for being the greatest parents ever! Also, this book is dedicated to my husband Mr. Ronald Johnson and our son, Sherard, Mr. Michael L. Bowie, my special friend, for his teachings, his love, support and encouragement during the writing of this collection, Ms. DeShae McKinnon, my life-long friend and supporter and to all of my family and special friends. Discovery of Peace
While sitting in my office with nothing to do, one day I decided to do something new.
Went into my office to sit down, then suddenly I began to look all around.
It was peaceful and quiet which wasn't so bad, but that was one thing I had never had.
Took out my pen and began to write, wrote about all the corruption and sin.
Began to write, write, and write, became a Pro. Then everyone knew of my name with a glow.
Now I am a poet you see, because I had time to use my mind,
and where there is time to use your mind, one can always think and
write about the gift of life through discovery of peace...
Memoirs of Mom and Dad
What I remember about mom and dad,
when I was sad, they made me glad.
When I had troubles on my mind,
mom and dad always had time.
They brought me up ever since I could remember,
on that 22nd day of September.
They gave to me the patience needed in order for me to grow,
to understand and endure, what life had in store.
They've filled my life with happiness since the day it first began,
And each and every day I live, I give thanks for my mom and dad.
So now that I am grown you see, I realize what precious gift I received,
Hence, nothing in this world alone will ever replace the emptiness felt, since their departure into heavenly rest...
Salute to Mom & Dad
We count this as a special day that we salute you
and there's no price in this life, to add up to what you're due.
We know it wasn't always easy providing for a family of our size,
but without the two of you sticking together, we would not have survived.
You have not retired from this world, just from the demands of the working race.
And now it's just your time to slow down, and live life at your own pace.
We have many salutes to you this day, no matter how great or how small,
so this is just our way of saying, that we have appreciated them all.
May you both always remember this day, that we salute to you;
for truly, there are no greater parents than you, if we had to choose.
