stared at Lojab for a moment. “Commander, is there any way for you to verify the whole Earth is now in two-eighteen BC? I still think we fell into some kind of sink hole and when we get out, we’ll find everything as it was before.”
“We can’t see a great amount of detail from up here, but we know the major cities like New York, London, and Paris are gone. The Golden Gate Bridge is gone. The Eiffel Tower is gone.”
Autumn spoke again. “What ancient structures would have been visible from space in two-eighteen BC?”
“Well, let’s see…the Pyramids and parts of the Great Wall of China for sure.”
“You said all man-made structures were destroyed seven days ago, right?”
“Yes,” Commander Burbank said.
“Then if you can see either the Pyramids or the Great Wall,” Autumn said, “and they aren’t piles of rubble, what would that tell you?”
“That would tell me I’ve probably gone completely nuts, but we’ll be coming up on China in a few minutes, so we’ll see.”
“Do you have a telescope?” Autumn asked.
“No, but we have a camera with a telephoto lens. We’ll take a couple of shots of the Wall and see what it looks like. I’ll radio back in ten minutes.”
