      При некоторой схожести конструкции у вольтова столба есть одно существенное отличие от лейденской банки: если последняя представляла собой прообраз конденсатора, обе обкладки которого были изготовлены из одного и того же металла, то в вольтовом столбе они были разными – цинк и медь, а зазор между ними заполнялся кислотой.
